Student shooting case on hold

Source: Erie Times-News, Pa.儲存倉Oct. 25--The case against a 17-year-old boy accused of shooting another teen near Strong Vincent High School in April has been placed on hold while the teen and his family work to obtain a lawyer for him.A hearing was scheduled Thursday before Erie County Judge John Garhart for teen Jakwaris Robison to have his case transferred from adult to Juvenile Court. Robison was charged as an adult after the April 8 shooting under the Fisher Bill, a state law that permits juveniles accused of violent crime to be charged as adults.At Thursday's hearing, however, one of Robison's lawyers, Nicole Nino, told the judge she had just filed a motion for her and her partner, R. Blaine Jones II, of Pittsburgh, to withdraw from the case.In the motion, the two lawyers said they have not been paid as required.Garhart said he would grant the motion, but gave Robison and his family 10 days to oppose it.If Jones and Nino withdraw from the case, Garhart told Robison he could apply to the Erie County Public Defender's Office for a lawyer. Jones previously 迷你倉最平iled a motion arguing that Robison should be tried as a juvenile.He said Robison, who was 16 at the time of the shooting, has no prior offenses. Trying him as a juvenile would, among other things, allow Robison to "stay in school for preparation to become a productive member of society," Jones wrote.Garhart put a stay on that motion Thursday until Robison obtains counsel.District Attorney Jack Daneri has said his office plans to oppose Robison's transfer to Juvenile Court.Robison is accused of shooting and injuring a 16-year-old boy once in the stomach and once in the leg at West Eighth and Cranberry streets shortly after school let out on April 8.He faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license, illegally possessing a weapon and reckless endangerment.LISA THOMPSON can be reached at 870-1802 or by e-mail.
