Anniversary celebration, outdoor movie, cultural forum: Milwaukie, Gladstone and Oak Grove events

Source: The Oregonian, Portland, Ore.self storageSept. 04--MILWAUKIEThe city of Milwaukie is hosting a celebration this week for the 75th anniversary of City Hall.Mayor Jeremy Ferguson, Congressman Kurt Schrader, Clackamas County Commissioner Jim Bernard and others will speak at the event, which begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. Festivities will take place in front of City Hall, 10722 S.E. Main St., and coincide with First Friday events in downtown Milwaukie.Milwaukie City Hall was built between 1937 and 1938 as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works. It was one of agency's last projects in Oregon.The formal dedication for the building took place in July of 1938 and was accompanied by parades, dinners and a baseball game. "Much of the old Hollywood downtown is still intact," she said. "It helped me imagine the city through a 1939 lens."Gloss is the author of five novels, including The Hearts of Horses, Wild Life, The Drazzle of Day, The Jump Off Creek and Outside the Gates.
