Parity accepting applications for leadership program

Source: Dayton Daily News, OhioAug.存倉 02--DAYTON -- Black professionals in the Miami Valley region are encouraged to apply for Parity Inc.'s Black Leadership Development Program.The program is "designed to identify, educate and motivate a network of community leaders and increase the individual's capacity to serve the Dayton region," said LaTonia McCane, committee member and secretary for Parity, Inc.Parity has provided the program for 30 years, according to Patricia Meadows, co-chair of the Parity Inc. Board. Parity cut the program in 2008 because of the economic downturn. The program was reinstated last year and had 13 graduates from the 2012-2013 program year. In total the program has had more than 700 graduates.Alonzo Edmonds, a graduate of last year's program and an employee at the auditor's office said the program taught him more about Dayton's history."I was born here. I thought I knew everything. I thought I knew a lot, but after the program I found I had a lot to learn," Edmonds said."I would suggest this to anybody not just for black folks or white folks. So much stuff is moving away from the community and if we are going to bring it together we need everybody," Edmonds said.Participants of the program learn about the education system, welfare, fine arts, judicial system, political syst自存倉m, law enforcement, corporate world, social services, and the Dayton community. They also take tours, attend seminars with community leaders, and participate in open discussions about issues in the Dayton community, according to Meadows.Applicants must "be at least 21 years of age, professional, have a strong interest in the community and the willingness to devote the time to the community throughout the year," said Richard Wright, Parity's executive director.Applications can be obtained by visiting .parity-inc.org. Click on the leadership development tab. Applications must be submitted by mail. Mail the application to Richard Wright at The Black Leadership Development Program Parity Inc., 907 W.
