"We have this pot of money we give to the landlord or the utility company on behalf of the veteran."As part of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, Family Endeavors assists "very low-income veteran families who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness in North Carolina," according to the Family Endeavors website.The organization's veterans services include outreach, case management, help in obtaining VA benefits, and assistance in obtaining and coordinating other public benefits.Family Endeavors also has the ability to help qualified veterans and their families temporarily cover rent or utility payments, deposits, transportation and moving costs, the website said.Family Endeavors is headquartered in Texas."When we expanded, we looked for areas with high veteran density, high homelessness and no SSVF services," Witt said. "We went to Alabama, Florida and North Carolina. Here, we chose Fayetteville because it's right here next to the largest Army installation in the world. We thought it would be a great place to serve veterans. This is really a great place to really be able to service those most in need."Family Endeavors operates with a grant for supportive services for veterans and families, which is modeled after the Center for Economic Empowerment & Development's emergency shelter grant, she said."We do something similar. They have a much smaller grant," Witt said. "We target only 迷你倉omeless vets. We also do case management for housing and make sure they get all their benefits."In addition to Fayetteville, Jacksonville and Charlotte were identified for state offices because of their high homeless veterans populations.Over its initial six weeks, the Fayetteville office served 68 veterans, Witt said. Statewide, 94 veterans have received assistance.Locally, Witt said, Family Endeavors provided case management for most of those vets. Case workers looked at the risk factors and barriers that prevented them from staying in their home or getting into a home. Some received financial assistance, in some cases the income required to get them into their house. In other cases, deposits were paid, and rent or utilities in arrears were covered. Vehicles were repaired in cases where the veterans were living in their cars, and some received moving costs.To be eligible for assistance, individuals must have served at least one day active duty beyond basic training; they must be homeless or at risk of homelessness; and their income must be below 50 percent of area median income, she said.By HUD's standards, individuals with incomes below 50 percent of AMI are considered to be very low income."We are a rapid housing program for homeless vets," Witt said. "The idea is to get them housed and then assess them for other community services. Get them off the street and into a safe place to live. We are a prevention for those at risk for being homeless. We step in and help provide."They have to be low income," she said. "They live very close to the edge. Leal finished 12 for 25 for 129 yards. He threw two fourth-quarter interceptions, the first of which UCLA linebacker Myles Jack returned 24 yards for a touchdown to put the Bruins (10-3) up 28-10 with 13:22 left in the game.It was the most points allowed by Tech in a bowl game since giving up 52 to California in the 2003 Insight Bowl, and it was the biggest bowl loss for the Hokies since falling 42-3 to North Carolina in the 1998 Gator Bowl.The game changed for Tech in the second quarter. 海灣生態濕地公園風景美不勝收。本報訊（記者 林彥恂 袁笙 攝影報道）市民出門遊玩將增添一處休閒觀光的"生態綠洲"。昨天，迷你倉我市舉行海灣生態濕地公園揭牌儀式。今後這處位於海灣大橋高速公路出入口的公園將于每天上午8時至下午6時向市民免費開放。走進公園大門，沿著園內木橋小道，所見之處到處碧波蕩漾、綠樹成蔭，有些樹木成功抵禦冬天的寒意，綻放出火紅絢麗的花朵。仔細聆聽還不時可聞野鳥及幼雛的鳴叫聲，風景美不勝收。據悉，該項目建設面積195畝。項目定位以濕地生態為主基調，建設中自存倉量保留原有水體、蘆葦等。樹種選擇以特色鄉土樹種鳳凰木、樟樹、中華楠等為主，並大量種植銀葉樹、玉蕊、黃槿等半紅樹樹種，引種鄉土的紅樹林樹種桐花樹和秋茄，適當配置少量新優特樹種，建設成鳳凰木組團、樟樹組團、中華楠組團和紅樹林組團等五大特色樹種組團，使生態景觀林與自然融為一體。園內還配置有石長凳、路燈、垃圾箱、圍欄等設施。據瞭解，該園于年初開始施工建設，目前已基本完成建設工作，綠化美化效果和濕地風貌已初步顯現，成為汕頭港灣一處集自然、休閒和林業科普為一體的濕地生態公園。迷你倉出租

多方提議開放 借北京國際旅遊年契機 天安門終定票價10元——26年前 天安門城樓對外開放

法制晚報訊（記者 李靜） 1988年1月1日起：天安門城樓正式對外開放1988年元旦，存倉天安門城樓正式對遊客開放。這一天陽光明媚，天氣格外的好。早上七點，74歲的北京東四人民商場退休會計高錫武，早早地在天安門登樓處買了票，登上了天安門城樓，成為天安門城樓開放後的第一名遊客。作為紀念，天安門城樓的工作人員送給他一個大紅證書和一個景泰藍花瓶。白髮斑斑、衣著樸素的高錫武抱著禮物，無比激動地站在天安門城樓上，顯得容光煥發、神采奕奕。同他一起獲得禮物的還有登上天安門城樓的第一名外國遊客，美國人卡特和他的妻子。在中國，無論男女老少，沒有不知道天安門的。小學課本上有天安門的圖片，連幾歲的小孩子都會唱"我愛北京天安門"……在中國人心裡，天安門一直是一個神聖的地方。來北京參觀的遊客，最大的心願就是在天安門廣場合影，然後登上天安門城樓感受一下。如今，對於普通的民�來說，登上天安門城樓，這個願望很容易實現，但是在1988年之前，這卻是一件想都不敢想的事。城樓年久破敗 112天秘密重建現輝煌1949年10月1日，毛澤東在天安門城樓上莊嚴宣佈，中華人民共和國成立。新中國成立前，天安門城樓和整個北京城一樣，已經是破舊不堪。北京解放後，為了恢複它往日的風采，天安門城樓經過了多次修繕。1949年，為了迎接開國大典，市政府對天安門城樓進行了垃圾清除和簡單的修整。1952年，北京市第四屆第一次各界人民代表大會決定對天安門城樓進行較全面的修繕。在這次施工中，工人們竟然在城樓西邊的木梁上，發現了3發八國聯軍入侵北京時遺留下的炮彈。但是這些小修小補，並沒有起多大作用。1966年的邢台地震，使天安門城樓的結構嚴重損毀、變形，歷經滄桑的天安門危在旦夕。1969年國務院決定，在原址按原規模和原建築形式，對天安門進行重新修建。這次工程是在極端秘密的情況下進行的，當時整個天安門城樓都用葦蓆嚴密遮蓋起來。為了保持原有的風貌，施工人員對城樓上拆下的所有木構件進行測量、畫圖和拍照，並按順序編號，然後按照圖紙進行木構件加工。在拆除工程中，施工人員還在天安門頂部正中的脊瓦下，發現了數百年前放在這裡用來闢邪佑福的鎮宅之寶。經過112天艱難而又複雜的施工之後，1970年4月7日，重建天安門城樓工程竣工。經過重建的天安門恢複到原有的34.7米的高度。作為開國大典的標誌物，天安門城樓承載了中國人太多的喜悅和記憶。人民群�對它倍加珍惜和愛護，在六十年代的重新修建後，又進行了多次的修整，使它始終保持著壯麗的容顏，與新中國同行。歷經8年提議 改革開放製造契機新中國成立以後，故宮、北海、景山公園等昔日的皇家宮殿和園林紛紛向普通民�開放。但是作為重要政治場合的天安門城樓卻始終拒普通群�于千里之外。1984年9月，一封署名為"華興"的信放到了時任中共中央總書記胡耀邦的桌上。寫信人要求開放天安門城樓，供人參觀遊覽。信中寫道："我是1954年從上海來北京的。30年來，每次到天安門，仰望天安門城樓，我總夢想有一天能登上這'祖國心臟的心臟'。我向周圍的同志們說出我的願望，有人說這是幻想，白日做夢，但我深信，總有一天，夢想會成為現實。以前誰想過可以進入中南海參觀？現在不已經實儲存了嗎？當然，要開放天安門城樓必須確保安全，但只要有現代化的設備和必要的措施，安全是能保障的。"這封信受到當時中央有關領導的高度重視，經過萬里、胡�立等領導的圈閱後，中辦主任王兆國批示："請北京市提出具體辦法報中央審批。"其實，早在1980年，當時的中共中央副主席李先念就曾提出，能否將天安門城樓向群�開放。但是，當時人們的思想觀念還不夠開放，膽子還不夠大，客觀條件也不成熟，所以這一提議並沒有得到響應。1984年5月，繼深圳等經濟特區成立之後，黨中央、國務院決定全部開放中國14個沿海港口城市，開放的大潮在中國大地上接連不斷地湧起。一直在人們心中地位神聖的天安門城樓，也迎來了向世界開放的大好契機。控制登城人數 票價定每人次10元隨著1988年北京國際旅遊年的到來，開放天安門城樓終於被提上日程。1987年國慶後，北京市政府副秘書長楊登彥正式通知天安門管理處，為1988年1月1日天安門城樓的開放做好一切準備工作。按照市里的意見，天安門的工作人員按照開國大典時的樣子重新佈置天安門城樓。為了增加觀賞性，工作人員準備在大廳中央掛一些著名畫家的畫作。有的人提議掛毛主席、周總理等老一輩革命家以及現任國家領導人畫像，但很快就被否定了，畢竟，天安門城樓開放的目的是為了供人民群�參觀旅遊，如果掛上領導人的畫像，有點過於嚴肅。也有的人提議掛山水畫，但是備選主題太多，不論掛哪個似乎都不足以概括改革開放環境下中國人的精神面貌。經過多方討論，最後決定請來田世光、郭怡宗、王慶生三位大畫家揮毫作畫。雍容的牡丹、清雅的翠竹、怒放的臘梅，把莊嚴宏偉的天安門城樓映襯得富麗堂皇。此外，大廳中還掛有複製版的《開國大典》油畫。但是天安門城樓的參觀門票的價格該定成多少呢？當時，北京市的景點票價都在三毛、五毛、一元不等。但是如果天安門城樓也定如此的票價，就無法通過經濟手段控制登城人數，也就無法保護天安門城樓這座古老建築。經過多個部門的反複協商，終於把票價定位為每人次10元。除了票價，對於是否允許群�帶相機參觀一事，也經過了多次討論。從安全角度考慮，剛開始的方案規定，參觀遊客一律不准帶相機。但是有領導認為，群�登上天安門參觀，肯定都希望能在城樓上面合影留念，如果不允許帶相機，就有悖于廣大參觀者的意願和開放城樓的初衷。因此，最終的決定是，除了大廳內禁止拍照外，天安門城樓上可以隨處合影。這一件件小事看似簡單，卻體現出天安門城樓的重要性。經過幾個月的精心籌備，1988年1月1日，也就是"北京國際旅遊年"的第一天，天安門城樓正式向來自中國和全世界的參觀者開放。當時，第一次登上天安門城樓的人們，個個心情激動，仿佛正在進行著一項神聖的活動。這一刻，他們已經等得太久了。第一天，登上城樓的中外遊客共計2000多人次。僅一個月，天安門城樓的門票收入就達到40萬元。文/李靜 製圖/廖元參考資料●唐崢，《天安門城樓開放的前前後後》；《歷史的背影》，《北京日報》紀事採寫組著，北京市，解放軍文藝出版社，2009年；●歐陽淞主編，《共和國大紀實 共和國心臟地帶揭秘》，第1卷，黨史出版社，2011年；●藍石等編著，《天安門不相信眼淚》，太原，北岳文藝出版社，1993年。迷你倉

Illini beat Hoosiers 83-80 in overtime

And every bit as successful.In an intense and entertaining Big Ten opener Tuesday afternoon, it was only appropriate the game needed extra time as the Illini beat the Hoosiers 83-80, their second straight home victory in the series."We feel blessed to have won," Illinois coach John Groce said. "That game could have gone either way. It was one of those games, a high-level game."Led by a career-high-tying 29 points from guard Rayvonte Rice, the Illini (12-2, 1-0) overcame a career-high 30-point performance from Indiana guard Yogi Ferrell and a 2-for-17 effort on 3-pointers to start the Big Ten season and end 2013 on a positive note.Illinois held the Hoosiers (10-4, 0-1) to one field goal in the final 6 minutes, 44 seconds of regulation and overtime.
